Fry's aggressively advertises that they undercut the competition (Safeway, Basha, Alberton's) by at least 10% on items you buy weekly. Maybe they do but let's look at Ground Beef today, shall we?
First. they have switched packaging and pricing.
No in-store packaging here. All seems to be their Angus brand packed and sealed elsewhere. And let's say you don't mind paying OVER $4 a lb and most were $4.50 or more. Even their non-angus was over $4/lb. They had two packages of nasty looking 75% or 80% for $3.99/lb. The nerve.
No per pound prices - they now mark as price per ounce. Hey, what's wrong with 26.2 cents per pound? Well, that's $4.19/lb - that's what. And we're not talking ground steak.
I talked to the meat guy and he pointed out the tube packed browned beef for $3/lb but this stuff is gristly and I don't buy meat I can't see. SO I told him off, went up to the customer desk and told them off too.
Then I went to Target and got it for $1 to $1.50 less a pound.
