| - I have never come across such disrespectful, borderline assaulting staff. I love to dance so I have been to nightclubs in many cities such as Las Vegas, Dallas, Miami, Ibiza, New York, Cancun, Bangkok, Madrid, Paris, Barcelona, Munich, and many of them were very classy and others not so much, yet I have never been mistreated the way the staff at Maya treated me on Friday night. And after reading many of the reviews, it seems that their physically harassing actions are standard business practices. Perhaps the staff is underpaid and/or overworked, but the way I was pushed, pulled, and yelled at by the staff on multiple occasions throughout the night is unacceptable.
The first instance occurred when I was made to move because I was blocking the view of people with a table. Instead of telling me to move, I was first pushed and yelled at by the staff member. It was not until the bottle service girl came over and explained the situation, that I understood why I was being pushed. The fact that the bottle service girl saw the need to come over and explain the situation should be indicative of the force and harassment used the by staff member.
The second instance occurred as I was leaving the restroom and the staff member confused me for someone else. As I was exiting the restroom, I passed two girls fighting and as I was making my way back to my friends, I was grabbed by the arm and pulled by the staff member who threatened to kick me out "if I pulled that shit again." I expressed my confusion, and the staff member did not bother to explain himself and instead was pushing me toward the exit. It was not until my blonde, Caucasian friend told the staff member that he was confusing me with another Hispanic girl- who was in the fight, that he finally let go of my arm.
When we arrived my friends and I saw that not all of the tables were sold so we had the intention of getting bottle service as the prices in Phoenix for bottle service are more affordable than in other cities, but after the first incident, we decided against it. Furthermore, I am sad to say that I will no longer be a patron of this establishment despite the fact that I like their guest DJs and pool.
