| - Let me start by saying that I see another doctor at another practice who is actually a patient at MMG SouthPark herself. Apparently specialist doctors need primary care doctor's too.. Anyway, during a visit, I was telling her about the problems I was having with trying to get an appointment or even getting anyone to call me back at my primary care doctor's office (I didn't mention MMG by name), and she actually guessed that I was talking about MMG on her own. She said that she has the same issues with them as a patient. Apparently even being a physician won't get you any special treatment here.
My issue starts with the fact that I was apparently assigned a primary care doctor when I became a new patient two years ago. What I was not told, however, is that this doctor works part time.. Meaning, if I need an appointment, it literally takes 6 months to get on her schedule (I'm not exaggerating--6 months). For an "urgent" medical issue, I was once offered an appointment two months out. I will say, when I can get in to see her (Dr. Webster), she's great, very thorough, never makes you feel rushed.. but outside of my annual physical, I occasionally need a doctor that I can get in to see within a couple of days when I'm feeling sick.
Now you're thinking, why don't you just see another doctor at MMG SouthPark? Well that's where the issues start. If they're not your designated primary care doctor, they don't want to see you. I have had the hardest time trying to make an appointment and get on someone else's schedule, all because I'm not "their" patient. Not my patient, not my problem. My fiancé's mother is a physician and has confirmed that this is not normal procedure. What is the point of a medical "group" if I can't get an appointment with anyone other than my primary care doctor? Why is this place so adamant that you can only see the one person you've been assigned to, and no one else? You better be really sick or really hurting to get an appointment on someone else's schedule.. I've had to go into explicit detail about my medical issues to convince the receptionists that I deserved a earlier appointment with a doctor that was not my primary. Pretty absurd.
Also, I had an emergent medical issue come up recently and was seen twice at their extended hours service (which is one other redeeming quality here--the extended hours). These visits led to me having some scans done, and I was told the results would be ready within a day or so. I called two days later and was told the radiologist hadn't sent over the report. That wasn't true because I could see online in mycarolinas that the report had been sent by radiology and received by MMG, it just hadn't been viewed by my doctor or anyone at MMG. I asked for them to view it and call me back. The weekend passes and I'm still in pain, still waiting on the results. I call and ask again if we have any word, and I was told that if I wanted the results read, I should just check myself into a CMC hospital, as any Carolinas Healthcare System physician would have access to the report and could get it for me. Yes, they literally suggested an ER visit just so that I could get my test results. No thanks. I call twice again the following week as its now been over a week and no one has even looked at the report. I finally get a call back, I am told I can view the report online. Except it ended up not being available online at all.. And when I called back yet again, I was just told I would need to come get a copy myself. Cool. 'Preciate the service.
