| - Longtime patrons, hadn't been in for a while, so decided to take the family for dinner and a few pints. Big mistake. It appears to have changed hands. And the whole thing was like a Greatest Hits of How Not to Run a Brewpub.
From the beginning we felt unwelcome. The server wordlessly dropped four menus on the table and left. When we finally got a chance to order, one of us ordered a root beer and the guy left!.... there were three more people at the table who wanted drinks!....
and the root beer had a chunk of something at the bottom, which was only discovered after it got into someone's mouth....
Server was clueless about their beers. I asked about the 5 IPAs on the menu and got "They're hoppy, try our blonde ale, blah blah." After going back and forth for awhile, I said as politely as possible that I needed more info. Is it citrusy? Piney? Floral? He had no idea. I had to pull up their web site to get descriptions.
When our food came, the fried food (onion rings, fish) was all overdone, borderline inedible, black in places. The burgers were unexceptional, thin patties with few toppings on small buns, and kinda flavorless. Nobody asked us how our food was.
One of us tried to order a beer and it never came....
And at the end, while we waiting for our check, the bartender said to a patron at the bar, "You sound like every liberal out there. 'The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!'" and then pretended to cock a shotgun and fire it at him. I don't care what your politics are, that's just not appropriate. You are there to serve people beer, not pretend to shoot them. Full stop.
So in a nutshell, lousy food, unexceptional beer, uninspired service and truly horrifying bartending. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is because I remember how good it used to be, and I have hopes that it may rebound.
In the meantime, though... go somewhere else.
