I had seen la distillerie listed on many 'best cocktails in Montreal' lists and it was well reviewed on Yelp as well so I had to try it out. I was not disappointed! These people are excellent at what they do! Drinks are divided into categories like Fresh, Fruity, Acidic, Creamy etc, helping you pare down what you might be feeling like. Each category has 4 or 5 drinks listed with full descriptions and ingredients as well as just the names of a few others that would fit into that category. The bar staff are extremely friendly and helpful which, I'm sad to say hasn't always been my experience in Montreal so kudos to these guys. Do you pay a little extra for these drinks? Yes. Are they worth it? Yes! I had a mango cobbler and a Montreal iced tea and both were delicious! Because they were a bit sweeter it took my a while to really feel that they were also pretty strong! My partner had a buttered rum (perfect drink after waiting in a cold line for up to almost an hour) and a pomme d'happy which may be the nicest tequila drink I've ever tasted, and I'm a huge fan of tequila! My only gripe, as I mentioned above, was waiting almost an hour in line in the cold but, I guess you can't blame an establishment for being popular! We arrived just before 9pm so I'm thinking if I go again I may try to get there a bit earlier and maybe beat the crowd. I almost regret giving such a positive review for fear it will be even busier when I try to go back but, it's well deserved.
