We came to Charlotte for a conference and stayed within walking distance of the Mint. It more than met my need for an art "fix". The craft and design galleries were a wonder of varied media and imagination. You are first greeted by ever-changing glass light display by Danny Lane. This then carried you through exhibits by media: glass, wood, fiber, textile, jewelry, painting. There is a wonderful digital projection exhibit by Jennifer Steinkamp which is an ever-changing organic landscape that was very visually stimulating and relaxing at the same time. Just terrific. The American contemporary art galleries were equally varied and entrancing. If you come to Charlotte looking for an art fix this is the place to go. The gift shop went on and on with many many innovative and interesting items for purchase. You can surely find something you like there, perfect for gifts or a treat for yourself.
