  • I came to this practice 8 months ago and was very impressed with the office and dr. Winterland. I explained that I had my son at a birth center, so it was important to me that I choose a pediatrician who can complete the newborn screen and hearing screen in the office as soon as possible after the birth because I was actively trying to get pregnant with our second child. She was very sweet/understood my position/said they would be able to accommodate our family. I also took my son to his 2 year well child exam and again was happy with the way the office operated (even though they let us wait for 45 minutes to see the dr) as well as dr winterland's bedside manner. Fast forward to June, I had our second son and made an appointment as soon as he was born to get the once over/newborn screen. We show up to the office and again wait 45 minutes to be seen. My son picked up what seemed to be a vaccine cap off the ground which didn't make me happy, but I was willing to move past that. I was surprised when dr winterland walked in, she was unapologetic about the wait (especially considering I saw her in the hallway eating food and laughing with the other staff members) and also she was wearing a short sundress and flip flops-completely unprofessional in my opinion. She proceeded to ask the usual questions about our newborn and then tosses us a packet of information that included information about getting the newborn screen at Sonora quest. When I questioned why they don't do the screen in the office she replied that she doesn't know who told me that they did it in the office. To which I told her she had told me at my son's well child visit just 6 months prior. Her response? Rolling her eyes at me. Wow. This is someone I am trusting with my kids' well being and she is rolling her eyes at me? Even my 2 year old doesn't do that. I told her I wasn't comfortable taking my one day old to a lab for a simple heel prick and she got defensive saying that I "had to and didn't have a choice." Umm yes I do have a choice. So I said I'll take care of it/please check my child over so we can be on our way. A simple "I'm sorry, we've recently changed our policies" would have sufficed. Instead, her silly attitude confirmed I was at the wrong pediatrician and will be finding another office to take care of my children.
