| - The inside of the airport would get 4-stars from me. The layout is pretty easy to understand and navigate. They have decent food options. And, the rocking chairs... Hello?! The rocking chairs are like tourist attractions for travelers from near and far.
Where CLT falls way short is the dumpster fire they call departures pick up. It doesn't seem to matter what day of the week, what time of day, there is always a traffic jam leading in to the pickup area. I'm guessing it's because they screwed up their parking decks so severely that no one can park and just walk over any longer. So, everyone instead tries to cram themselves through the 3-lane, one-way road to pick up their friends and family.
When we arrived home from San Francisco last night, it took our Lyft driver almost 20-minutes to drive less than a mile to reach us. And, even when we could tell he had arrived thanks to the app, it was still almost impossible to find him since there were hundreds of people, cars, suitcases, ad naseum EVERYWHERE.
The long term parking shuttles are no better. On any given day, you could wait over an hour for a bus to your lot.
If Charlotte ever hopes to hold its own as an international airport, we have got to figure out this traffic/parking situation. And, don't tell me it's coming. Those damn parking decks have been under construction for almost 10-years now. I'm not putting any faith in that.
