  • I've always been a runner, but after I turned 40, I found that I needed more than just that to beat my slowing metabolism. A friend introduced me to Orangetheory (the University location), and I was SO excited when one opened much closer to my house in the new Kingsley development. (Coincidentally, those two locations are owned by the same people.) I love that each exercise is different but that any fitness level can participate - it's all based on your individual heart rate, so you're really just competing with yourself... although there *is* a board that lets you see not only your numbers, but also everyone else's, too. For those of us who're competitive, it helps with motivation on those days when you have no motivation! Workouts are made up of the treadmill, rower, and weights/floor exercise, with varying times spent on each depending on whether it's a power, endurance, or strength workout. Classes are one hour and start at 5 am during the week and 7 am on weekends, and you have to register to go - if you ditch less than 8 hours before you class, you get charged, so there's even more accountability! However, the staff and coaches are so incredibly nice and you start to "know" so many people that you won't want to ditch. I'm a hardcore introvert, and even I look forward to seeing familiar faces when I'm there. It's definitely a group mentality and people legitimately cheer you on when you need it. I've officially drunk the OTF Kool-Aid. Quick tip - bring a towel and a water bottle. The studio sells them if you forget yours though.
