Wish they had more of these kinds of markets in NYC. Jean Talon is huge and a must-see. Came here during a visit with my husband and enjoyed rows and rows of fresh produce - from seasonal apples, gourds, to greenhouse berries and veggies. Everything looks beautiful and too pretty to eat. Not only is the produce impressive but so are the cheese shops, and meat shops (plenty of all sorts of aged hams and poulet).
Some of them also do ready to eat food - we shared a smoked meat sandwich (yummy), a spicy sausage on a bun, to a maple tarlette. (Not too sweet). They also have some ethnic food shops - we split a delicious corn fritter with an amazing tomato chutney. They also have a Turkish bakery on site. Fresh flowers are also available.
And of course endless shops selling Canadian specialties, like maple syrup, butters, apple cider etc. Some allow you to try them. On the periphery of the markets are grocery type shops and more bakeries - where they have croissants and things available. Definitely worth visiting - I see plenty of tourists and locals alike!
