| - My love affair with Snoh's deliciousness is nothing new (read my review on their flagship location on Camelback). But that love affair has grown in recent years, both because of repeated trips back and (more recently) a new location just a short walk from my Downtown digs. If you've never tried this cross between ice cream and shaved ice, it can be a surprising and somewhat odd thing to process at first. But Snoh is a hit with Yelpers and everyday customers for good reason. Or rather make that numerous reasons.
The Downtown location is on the northeast corner of 2nd St and McKinley, just a couple doors down from Cobra Arcade Bar. While the menus of the Camelback and Downtown locations are identical, the Downtown location is quintessentially urban in feel. Its also quite a bit bigger and roomier than the Camelback location with seating inside as well as seating outside in the back. First place you should stop when you come in the door is the TV menu board to your immediate left. There you can study all the numerous options and combinations of flavors you want, as well as learn the system for customization if you're a newbie. The most important steps to remember: 1) Choose your flavor, 2) Choose your toppings, and 3) Choose a glaze.
On this Sunday evening, I didn't come to create my own magic this go around. No, tonight I came for one of Snoh's own signature combos. That would be the #3 combo, known simply as the the Smorrissey. Chocolate snoh, topped with marshmallows, graham crackers, and nutella. Went with a medium size. Total: $6.
This was my first meeting with the Smorrissey and let's just say we're going to get along beautifully. As with Snoh's other concoctions, a nice light airy texture of the shaved ice, but packed with flavors both in the ice and on top. The nutella mixed in was especially nice. Think the coldest, flakiest, chocolatiest s'mores you've ever had. Magnificent dessert to close out the weekend.
To Snoh's credit they do a great job of harnessing Yelp by offering a discount after your first review of them (they prominently display this near the entrance in fact). Not that I needed the motivation as I'll certainly be a regular at the Downtown location regardless, but a nice incentive nevertheless. Oh and just an FYI in case snoh isn't your thing, they also have slushies, milk teas, and iced teas available. And just like the snoh menu, all the drinks are customizable as well. So come on in, study up on the menu, and dig in. Welcome to Downtown, Snoh. It will be quite literally impossible to run out of flavor combos to try.
