| - It should be called East LA Fitness. I have been with LAF since they came to Phoenix, and over the years I have watched their decline. The clubs in the Southwest part of the valley are the worst.
Oftentimes equipment is broken for long periods before being repaired. The locker rooms are absolutely disgusting with overflowing trash cans, empty soap/towel dispensers, but plenty of filth. Recently, I shared a shower with a bloody band-aid, a few days later I went to take a shower and it was still there!
The employees seem to have plenty of time for cleaning, but cannot be disturbed while in their cell phone trance, rarely even looking up to acknowledge a member. This grueling cell phone time must exhaust them as they frequently turn out the lights and close the gym early. The worst is Lois, the janitor for the club in Goodyear who closes the gym early because he has another job he must be at. He rudely yells at members "Gym's Closed!" And while he doesn't have time for maintenance, he does have time to play volleyball.
The rise of the douche bags. Because the employees hate their jobs and don't give a damn, they allow a for a lot of nonsense which attracts douche bags. Not only does the staff allow people to bring in boom boxes to blast their own music, but employees walk around with music playing from their own cellphones. Not to be outdone and to hear their favorite music, the desk staff turns up the gym's audio system. It's one big headache-inducing noise. In an age of high-quality headphones, this is just purposely inconsiderate of other members.
Imagine focusing on lifting heavy and a random basketball practice breaks out on the gym floor. Or Hans and Frans posers screaming like banshees at each other. Or the two guys with almost all of the dumbells stacked up around their bench and guarding them like pitbulls on a steak. Or in the locker room where guys take flexing selfies in the mirror, and while they may embrace being douche bags, I really don't want naked pictures of myself in the background. And be sure to bring your own water unless you're ok with drinking fountains used as spitune's filled with spit and boogers. I wonder if these people drink out of the toilet?
I have worked out at many different gyms, some catering to professional bodybuilders and other athletes, but I LAF has the worst gym etiquette. LAF once were quality fitness center's but now they seem to be just focused on growth.
