  • If there was ever a bigger letdown than Shakers, I have never seen it... and pray I never do. First of all, I should preface the rest of this review by saying my opinion MAY be a little soured on it considering I was involved in the building of this place and spent a good 3 months of my life eagerly anticipating it's opening, and I'm sure everybody's had a situation happen where they build up the hype for something in their head much bigger than it could live up to... well, this was one of those situations. When I was first brought in to work on it, I was told this was going to be marketed as an alternative to, and possibly competition for, Calaway Park. Let me lay that notion to rest right now: this place doesn't stack up AT ALL. It's a little bit cheaper, but for the 8 dollars or so you save you have maybe a 10th of the things to do (if that), NONE of the cool scenery, and all the food and drinks and other "extra charges" will more than make up the few bucks you saved on admission. Oh, and did I mention you'll have to drive about 5 times as far outside of the city? Honestly, in the one visit I made as an actual customer, I found I had experienced everything this place had to offer in less time than it took to get there, and felt pretty ripped off since you pay almost 30 bucks for an "unlimited pass" only to find that almost half of the main building (which houses 90% of the "attractions") is taken up by the concession area, which you pay extra for, and the arcade games, which you pay extra for. Essencially your day pass covers the laser tag (which, while fun, has nothing on Laser Quest), the go karts, the "indoor playground" (which, for the adults in the group is essencially a lot of standing arouind and waiting for the kids to play in... god help you if you're a teenager or young adult just looking for a fun time with friends) and the go karts - a normally fun experience which these guys had managed to suck the fun right out of with incredibly strict rules on contact and a VERY short ride time. For the same ammount of money you spend here, you could easily hit Laser Tag, Kart World, and the arcade at the Chinook theater in less time, get better individual experiences, and not have to drive way out into the boonies to do it. Personally, unless I somehow stumble across a bunch of free passes (which I hear hasn't been too hard in recent years; i guess they must be having a hard time getting people out there) I will probably never be back. 9/30
