| - Valentines Day 2015:
I was pretty disappointed with our visit to Cuttlefish. I was pretty excited to take my girlfriend here because I had heard good things about the restaurant.
We arrived a little early, and I had made reservations about a week before. We still had to wait about 20 minutes after our reservation time to be seated, which is kind of understandable considering it was Valentines Day.
We were seated at a table on the patio that was next to a group of about 7 people who were leaning on the other side of the fence and talking. There were two other tables on the opposite side that could have been bussed that we could have sat at. Again, I know it's Valentines Day and somebody is probably going to draw a short straw here, but I really felt there were better options. We were not asked if we would prefer to sit inside or outside during the reservation or when we were seated.
I ordered a glass of wine and my date ordered a diet coke, bother came relatively quickly. At the same time we ordered the equivalent to the chilled seafood tower. We were pretty excited about this - unfortunately they had run out of king crab. The waitress said that they would replace the king crab with additional shrimp - which was okay because I had brought my date here because she loves shrimp. The issues was we got about 6-8 pieces of shrimp and 6-8 oysters. I kind of felt that was ridiculous to pay $40.00 for without the king crab, there was no pricing adjustment. The food however was really good.
We had been finished for a while at this point, with a couple of empty drinks and it was quite some time before our waitress got back to us. My date had her diet coke refilled maybe twice over about a two hour period.
The bread service was pretty good - I think the bussers or assistants did a pretty good job with the water and the bread.
Our entree came quite a while after we had finished the tower. The food again was pretty great. My complaints are definitely not about the food.
We ordered the chocolate volcano cake to go, because it's valentines day and that's what you do. It took a while to get it and came with the check, which wasn't ours. Up until this point I'm kind of okay - slow service is one thing and a little bit of a screw up is understandable. The check was smaller than ours by the way, and had already been charged to my card. When I went up to the bar where our server was and informed her that we had the wrong check she thanked me and I went back to my seat.
This was kind of the kicker and the reason I'm writing this review, (if you've made it this far) when the waitress came back she kind of rushed to the table, handed me the check and says "here I fixed it for you." My reaction was kind of, gee thanks. At this point we had been seated for almost two hours and had two courses and a box for our dessert.
Im not really sure what happen here. I picked this place because they had pretty good reviews. I think we had that one off experience that just wasn't good, which is a shame because it's not something we get to do often and I was really looking forward to a special dinner with my girlfriend. To sum it up, the food is very good, but the service really needed some work. I don't know what our servers name was and I probably wouldn't post it anyway, I know everyone has a bad night - I worked in the industry for six years. But, I was not happy with the experience.
