I have attended regularly for about 6 months and am feeling the disadvantage of "mega-church". I do love the services and music and pastors but it is really, really hard to connect. I've been in 3 life groups. The first was to just get comfortable into a life group. The 2nd I was lucky and got a group of women that were open and deeply interested in learning and sharing and were good listeners and thoughtful speakers.. The 3rd group was honestly counter-productive.
What I think is missing is bible study and instruction lead at the church by people trained to do so... especially if they are trained to help new and/or returning Christians. Being taught and gently guided by someone who knows how is different than a random group where you can get lucky and get some calm, deep thinkers or not so lucky and get an intolerant screamer.
I tried to get involved by volunteer too. That was also a mixed bag. One event was fun but interaction with others was very limited. Donating blood was easy but again, limited interaction. Trying to volunteer in the office was just plain unpleasant.
I will probably still attend services now and then although it's a bit of a drive but I doubt it will be my primary church.

I love this church. Starting off with current, up beat music followed by scriptures translated into messages that fit today. The services are meaningful and uplifting and often you get a laugh or two. (Yes, it is OK to laugh while worshiping God!)
It is quite large so they encourage you to join "small groups". The process of joining a small group is... well.. uncomfortable and funny at the same time! You have to give it a try to see why.
I'm looking forward to making many new friends at Canyon Ridge and forming a deeper relationship with God.
