  • We wanted to try something away from the Las Vegas strip and found the Lake Mead Champagne Dinner Cruise a good way to wind down a weekend of Vegas. =) The cruise was $84/person and included shuttle service from where we were staying and dinner. We took a charter bus out to the lake and had a little tour on the way there. The drive is about an hour from vegas and our driver was a pretty cool guy. Found out he was from the bay area, so it was pretty interesting talking to him. The cruise was a pleasant little dinner. The lake is nice and calm and very relaxing. The weather turned out to be totally perfect for the occasion although a little windy when we were on the third deck of the boat checking things out. Upon boarding the boat, they ask your last name, and direct you to your table where there's a little name card with your parties name on it. we made our reservation in advance but i noticed there were a few people on the 2nd deck who possibly purchased their seats at check in, but i'd call on that if you decide to just do a drop in. we were lucky enough to get a window seat but anywhere you sit is fine. you're free to get up whenever you want to check out the lake outside. the dinner itself was decent. they started us out with this yummy spinach cream soup that's in a glass you drink. followed by a little dinner salad and then our main course. we ordered the slow roasted prime rib dinners which was good but not the best i've ever tasted. my friend and her boyfriend got the chicken and the salmon and commented it was too salty. then following dinner of course was dessert! they had a choice between chocolate cake or cheesecake with chocolate swirled on top. both were pretty good. the cruise itself is about 2 hours and makes it's way around the lake and passes by the hoover dam. after docking, our tour bus driver took us to drive across the hoover dam. i was excited to be taken across it, and it was interesting since soon they won't be allowing people to drive across it in the near future due to the new bridge they are building to overpass the dam. it was ashame it was night time when we went though because pictures didn't come out and we weren't able to walk around the dam. we were taken to a spot that overlooked it and was able to get out to view it. it was a nice view to get to see. overall, the experience was pretty cool. it's not fancy and you can go in a comfy casual outfit and feel at ease. i'd recommend it to anyone who wants to try something different and relaxing away from the las vegas strip.
