| - Madison has so many good groceries, and Brennan's is just one good source. Perhaps not the place to come for dry goods or cleaning products and such, it is the place to come for bulk foods, deli meats, prepared deli items like pulled BBQ meats, baked goods, an alarmingly good choice of locally produced cheeses (with many samples available), wine and beer, and high quality produce. I often stop for one of my favorites, their "Rock 'n Rolla Gorgonzola." A creamy, pungent version of gorgonzola, which is almost Brie-like, as opposed to the crumbly bleu variety. The funny thing about Brennan's is the low lighting-almost romantic. Nice if you are trying to pick up a date here, but challenging when trying to read labels with tiny fonts. The store is almost never crowded, perhaps because I am usually there mid-day, mid-week. I love to browse with all the samples of cheeses, crackers, snacks and baked goods, and just to keep things in mind for later, like that dinner party or barbecue, where you need some high quality and specialty items. Some items can be pricey, but overall Brennan's is well-aligned with its competitors, and always fun. Come here when you're planning a Tuscan picnic.
