| - After years of seeing and hearing about the lustrous Las Vegas Buffets and how extravagant they are at such affordable costs, we finally came by one of the top rated buffets of Las Vegas and have our verdict: These buffets are so overrated .
Before I get into specifics, no matter what you do, a buffet simply can not hold the caliber per-dish that a regular restaurant can. Creating so much food in such a quantity simply loses the focus and flavor of these dishes, and although there was nothing so bad, none of the food was good enough to make us say "wow, we would come back just for this or that".
We made our way to dinner a little after opening on Monday around 5:30PM, there was no line at all but as we sat and enjoyed dinner, we saw the line grow extensively by about 7pm and the tables filled up.
We started on one end of the buffet getting small amounts of food to be able to try as much as we could. The first plate consisted of frog legs, spare ribs, salmon, beef taco, and a apple juice of sorts (it was apple-something, forgot what it was mixed with).
The juice was good, light and not too sweet. The spare ribs were soft and tender, but also very fatty and cold. The frog legs were decent, cold and the buffalo sauce was not a great dip for it. The beef taco had a stale/cold tortilla and the beef was dry. The salmon was cooked very well, but lacked flavor and the sauce was cold.
Next up, I had the beef colette, (I think that's what it was called), pork loin, with their wicked bbq sauce and chimichurri, as well as roasted potatoes. The beef was probably the highlight of the night. Very soft, flavorful, and juicy, and adding the chimichurri was a great choice, they did a good job on the chimichurri. The pork loin was also soft and juicy but extremely fatty. The bbq sauce was way too strong with ketchup and a vinegar taste. The potatoes were alright, somewhat crispy and garlicky.
Following, I had the bone marrow and wicked chicken. The bone marrow itself was good, but there was so little "marrow" in each bone, you lose interest in eating it. There was maybe a tablespoon in each bone and the "crostini" they serve next to it was as dry as sand. I went with a baguette from the other side of the buffet but still. The kimchi sauce was decent, but seemed like an odd pairing. The wicked chicken was also decent, fried nicely and juicy, but again, the chicken was getting cold by the time we arrived.
The duck was very soft but also very dry. The pumpkin risotto was good and flavorful.
The sushi was not bad, but they need more options. Other than the salmon and hamachi, they had some rolls, simple like spicy tuna and what made me shake my head was the "dragon roll" which, for them, was a California roll with eel sauce. What about the actual "eel" for dragon rolls??
I tried my dad's seafood soup they were making to order, and wow was this garlicky. No other flavor, it appears they give you garlic broth with garlic, garlic, garlic marinated fish, and more garlic.
Last item for the main food was the shrimp ceviche which was the only "gross" item of the night.
I seriously hoped dessert would be better but it maintained the same level. The macarons are just plain bad, both were way too sweet, the raspberry tasted like those cheap jams that are full of sugar, while the caramel macaron tasted like burnt caramel that was over sugared - weird, right? Sugary sugar? The cookies themselves seemed off as they were extremely brittle.
The tiramisu did not taste like tiramisu at all, tasted like cake soaked in bitter coffee with no other "tiramisu" influence, the cookies were ALL hard as a rock, you couldn't even break them apart without crumbling them, and the mint chocolate cup things were just way too minty and sweet while the little tart cup was dry.
The highlight of the dessert was the gelato, all of which we tried were tasty including oreo, nutella, pistachio, thai tea, mango sorbet, and raspberry sorbet.
I have to say the service was top notch from this place, and that was pleasant, while all the silverware and plates were constantly restocked, cleaned, and well kept.
Would I return here, or to any other Vegas buffet? Nope. Now I can say I've been to one and no need or desire to return.
