| - My bf and I stopped here for a quick drink (or two) and a snack prior to seeing Boeing Boeing this past weekend at the cabaret. After attempting to have cocktails at Butcher and the Rye, which was already fully packed by 6pm this past Saturday, we decided to give Six Penn Kitchen a try and, boy, am I glad we did! Although we only ordered the charcuterie and cheese plate, which was tasty, the drinks here are really what caught me by surprise! We sat at the bar, which was near empty when we arrived but was completely occupied by the time we left for our show, and had friendly service, in general. The male bartender-I wish I had caught his name- was much friendlier than the female bartender, and coincidentally, each round of drinks we had was made by a different bartender and our second round, made by the male bartender, was much tastier (and stronger!), than the first round. Anywho....I chose to indulge in the Tennessee Treat (Jack Daniels, pear liqueur, Blackberry shrub and rhubarb bitters) and my bf chose the Six Penn Sangria with pinot noir. Both drinks were excellent! So excellent I had to stop at two or I would have indulged in a third :) The charcuterie and cheese plate came with smoked mozzerella, brie, and havrati (I think), along with pork liver mousse, mortadella, and pancetta. There were also olives and crostini on the plate. I will return and sample actual meals but I'm glad I have another place to add to my repertoire of downtown drink/snack destinations before seeing any of the shows in the cultural district!
