| - Somehow without even checking Yelp I managed to stumble into one of the trendiest brunch places in Pittsburgh! Apparently this is a Caribbean restaurant, but I couldn't really tell from the menu. I do appreciate that there are a variety of vegetarian and vegan options!
I had the eggs cemita (torta) with cilantro, pickled red onion, avocado, black bean, chipotle aioli, and Oaxaca cheese. The sandwich had tons of flavor. You can't argue with eggs and melty cheese! At first I thought it was silly that the sandwich came wrapped in parchment paper, but it would have been really messy otherwise, so that was a smart call.
With a sandwich you have the option of hash browns, waffle fries, sweet potato fries, or salad as a side. I should've gone with waffle fries inside of sweet potato--the sweet potatoes were old. I also tried a bite of the Rainbow Salad; it was SO delicious and definitely an exciting lighter option!
The location is great; since Kaya is on a corner, you can soak up the vibes of the Strip without feeling like someone is selling a vegetable two inches from your face. There's a lot of outdoor seating that's perfect for people watching, but I was happy to be seated right away indoors with air conditioning!
It was a pretty affordable brunch at only ~$15 per person with tip. Of course, we didn't indulge in any of the brunch cocktails! Although the restaurant was full, the service was super fast so we could get back to touring Pittsburgh in no time. Overall, Kaya has a great atmosphere and some interesting menu options. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to recharge while in the Strip!
