  • My husband and I bought an outback from Camelback Subaru a few years ago. When it was time for our 30k tune-up we were shocked to find it was $700. For a tune-up. When we asked what could possibly cost so much in a tune-up, the service manager was rude and condescending. We ended up going to a different Subaru dealer where the exact same tune-up cost $275. We asked if it was some sort of special or if that was the normal cost (apparently Camelback just chooses to charge over twice what other dealerships charge). We were tricked into buying Zactec--they make you think it's a great deal but literally no service person (at Camelback or other dealerships) even know what you're talking about when you bring it up. We recently moved out of state and Camelback reached out to us about trading in our car and getting a new model. Since we wished we had gotten a few additional features the first time around (moonroof, tow-package, more user-friendly color) we made the decision to go for it. My husband spoke with a salesman several times over the course of the next few days, where my husband made it perfectly clear that we didn't necessarily want a new car but would be willing if we were able to get the features we wanted. We were assured that it wouldn't be a problem, that they had "our car" exactly there waiting for us. So we bit the bullet, arranged childcare and spent our day off driving five hours one way across the desert. When we arrived, "our car" was parked right out front for us (anticipating our SCHEDULED appointment to buy it). After an hour of getting the run-around, we were told that they were really sorry but they had just sold the car and that it was the only one like it in the state of Arizona. The state that we no longer even live in! The state that we just drove to to buy THAT car! When it was made clear that they expected us to pay ten thousand dollars more for a car that had the features we wanted (along with a ton we didn't) and that they used "our car" to lure us in, we left. The manager didn't come over to apologize or even speak to us. Nobody bothered calling us to make sure we were still coming before they sold the car promised to us. When we were understandably upset, we were told we should have made a deposit on it. What?! Nobody mentioned a deposit and we thought driving across the desert was commitment enough! If you're going to buy a Subaru, go somewhere else...ANYWHERE else. This place is the pits.
