| - Normally I expect the worst at car dealerships but this takes the cake for THE WORST car buying experience ever. My fiancé and I stopped by Peoria Ford to browse cars. We weren't seriously looking to buy anything. We encountered Jeanette and thought she seemed nice enough to not screw us. She showed us two Ford Explorers that has "$299" and "$329" listed on the window. We thought the Explorers were okay cars but we really had our eye on a Grand Cherokee. This has been my fiancé and I's dream car for a while now. She told us it was a little bit more but still in our price range. She said we'd probably get a great deal considering the Jeep was a 2015 with 50k miles on it (kind of ridiculous for a 35k car). We let her know that we are expecting a baby AND planning a wedding all in 2018. That right there should be the first clue that the budget of 300 a month is NON-NEGOTIABLE. We took both the Jeep and Ford on test drives, still was in love with the Jeep. We started the money talking and she passed us along to Juan. He came up with almost $700 a month!! (Are you high? That's more than double what I said my budget was). I said no, no, and hell NO. We made it VERY clear that we have a baby on the way, a 5-year-old already, we just brought a truck, we just brought a house in January, AND we're getting married next year. SO why show us a SUV that is WAY out of our price range and waste our time? They kept coming back with "better" offers. None of them came under 500 dollars. I gave them my debit card to "show commitment" agreeing to pay $400 if they could work us out a deal. Juan said we may need to look at a different car. He brings around this silver tiny SUV (I don't even know what kind of car it was). We know what we like and if we're going to spending 30K on a car, it better be exactly what we want, so no thank you! We had dropped our dog off at the groomers before coming here. We told them we had to pick her up. They messed around so much that the groomers were about to close and we HAD to get our dog NOW. We told them this.. they still took their sweet time. Juan brought Jeanette out, my fiancé was already in the truck waiting for me to get my debit card. She tried to get me to sit down again and talk about a "great deal of only 550 a month". I told her "I need to get my dog from the groomers" and she said "yes, I know. you already told me that" (rude much??) and I said "yeah they're closing so I need my debit card". She handed it over and said she's call me. In those 36 hours since we left, I've received 5 phone calls from them already. I don't want another SUV, nor am I spending 550-700 a month on the one I want. I never NEEDED a new car. In fact, I have 9 months to save up, pay off some bills, and get in a better position for my dream car. When the time is right, I will not be going back to Peoria Ford. Which is a shame because Pat Hickey is truly a great guy. Maybe he should reconsider his staff though.
Just a side note, don't ever give them something as a "commitment" to hold on to. They literally will not give it back until they feel like you're truly done with them. Pretty damn annoying and probably illegal too.
