| - This is the first Cirque show I have seen since the age of ten. My father took me to see Mystere before Treasure Island became the over-sexed pirate hooker-friendly TI. Memories of that evening are corroded by constant bitching, so lets consider this my FIRST Cirque show ever. I was given free tickets for my birthday and this really excited me since the idea of seeing Eastern European package invokes very realistic dreaming of the most depraved sort. Upon arrival, I realized there is definitely no bad seat in the house. There are special seats for people with too much money in the very back where you are served champagne on ice. Honestly, I dont believe this kind of indulgence would be worth the money considering every single show in Vegas only runs 90 minutes at the maximum (Union vote?)...
I had no idea what to expect. All I can see is a bed, mysteriously floating in a cloud of dry ice... I figure if a bed is taking center stage, this show must be erotic. The "man tree" (as I like to call it) was too much for my imagination. Many times throughout the night all I could think of was "It's raining men", as these hardbodies shot down from the ceiling faster than sleet in the Midwest. There is so much symbolism in this show (French influence?) but I think for many it is quite easy to miss.
The show is erotic in a way. I am disappointed that Le Reve is only 90 minutes; I understand they cut out a sequence where a woman comes dressed out as all the men and through some dance reminiscent of goddess worship, they praise her perfectly toned, muscular form. There are some new scenes, but alot of the comedy is completely cut (no more harassing the audience) as well as some other things. I understand that the nudity was taken out because too many people complained but I can't state that factually.
**(The prudishness I read in regard to the human body being exposed in artistic shows just amazes me. People who visit Vegas seem to be too prude or too perverted to appreciate naked, muscular Europeans who are much more physically talented than 99.9% of us.)
I can't assert that the music was my favorite but I truly enjoy seeing the beauty of extremely flexible human beings. I will give this show 4 stars because the performers are very talented. Since I usually dont see shows on the Strip, I have little to compare to.
