| - My husband and I lived in the old part for two years (2014-2016). The first year was ok- there seemed to be no one in the unit next to us, which was nice and our air conditioner froze once but the management promptly sent someone to fix it. They sent out notices for everything they had to do maintenance wise- i.e. turning off the water etc. The units were old but everything was livable because they would send people to fix things and let you know what was going on in the community, and did the best they could to maintain the grounds and facilities.
The second year there was enough for me to drop this place down to one star. I understand that it's hard to know who you're renting to when you sign them up but my first impression of our new neighbors that moved into the unit next to ours was them coming home from the clubs at 3am and talking with their friends right outside our front door about how a fight broke out in the club and everything was crazy and it was gang related and it was ok because their friend was in a gang and he has guns etc. It was enough to startle me, especially because it was loud enough to wake me up, I was home alone, and there is no security lock on the door at all. As if that wasn't enough, they would throw wrappers on the ground which would blow over to our patio and our front door, and they let their dogs do their business wherever and did not pick it up- the rock areas right in front of our doors then started smelling.
However, the real reason we left was because of management. After the first year we were there, they stopped leaving notices on our door about when they'd have to turn the water off, the outside areas went longer and longer without being taken care of, there was a serious cockroach problem outside and when I went to the office about that the woman that I talked to didn't seem to care too much and had a "what do you want us to do about it?" attitude, and to top it off we had a major leak in our bedroom during that big monsoon this summer. Water was literally streaming into our apartment down the walls- we had to hold towels on the streams because it was just pouring in. We went to the office, showed them pictures and video, and were told multiple times that someone would be out to look at it. No one ever came, despite multiple follow up requests and calls. And I'm really not exaggerating- it wasn't a drippy ceiling. Water was actually running down the walls in steady streams. We soaked 4 bath towels waiting for the rain to stop. That and many other incidents where we just felt neglected and like no one cared lead us to move out.
When we were moving out, we ordered a pizza- the pizza guy asked if we were coming or going. We said we were going and proceeded to tell us that he was happy for us as they deliver a lot of pizzas there and all the employees of the pizza place refer to it as "the ghetto". So happy to be out of there.
We are so so happy in our new place and it's only $100 more base rent. We have a security lock, you can't get into the gate unless you have a button, we have our own washer/dryer, the units are much newer, the gym is really nice and well maintained, there's a heated pool and a .75 acre dog park, and the management actually cares a lot about its residents. It's way worth skipping two dinners out a month to actually be happy at home and proud to have friends over.
