  • Went here for a quiet Wednesday night dinner. I hadn't been to the Tap Haus in a couple of years. My prior experiences had been unremarkable, but solid. This time around, some pros and cons. They have a nice number of taps (12ish?), of course featuring exclusively Middleton, WI's Capital Brewery. This brewery is predictably drinkable, tho lacking a certain edge. I had their Winter Skal, which was on special for $3 a pint. Yum. Their fries are well seasoned and tasty (although calling them "frites" just doesn't quite fit the style of fry in my book). Their fried pickles with ranch dipping sauce are just as decadently salty as they sound. The Reuben was heavy but flavorful, the meat having been chopped and mixed with a creamy-mayo concoction...though if you're ordering a Reuben with fries, you're probably not on a diet anyway. A couple of disappointments were the bland and dry chicken club, which barely had any of the guacamole listed as a topping on the menu, and (ok, let me explain) the ketchup. The ketchup was in a Heinz bottle, but definitely tasted, as my boyfriend succinctly put it, "like watered-down tomato paste." Details like this always make me question where else the restaurant is cutting corners... All in all, fine, but I'm not rushing back.
