Let me start out by telling you I am a bit torn writting this review. I searched several different board and train dog trainers before I decided to go with MPK9. I literally took a whole month searching reviews, prices experience, etc... some of the trainers I contacted never even returned my emails or phone calls but Gregory did and he answered all my questions.
I ultimately decided on MPK9 for Gregorys experience, his location in proximity to my home, and reviews on YELP that were mostly positive. The only problem was there were not many reviews on board and train which is what I wanted to do.
Training a dog requires CONSTANT CONSISTENT CORRECTION and after serveral months of that I decided I wanted to have a professional help me out. By the time I took my dog to Gregory she already knew sit, shake, down, drop it, and was doing really well walking on a leash and how to wait patiently for her food. But I was growing frustrated with her constant mouthing everytime we reached to pet her. So much so I almost changed her name to Mouthy Mc Bitey Face. And by this time growing tired of the constant consistent correction. So I took her in for 1 month boot camp.
We dropped her off and waited a week before we contacted Gregory about a visit. He obliged and we meet him at his location. She was obviously happy to see us and over excited so we did not expexct much. After the first visit we decided it would be best if we left her in his hands for the duration of her 1 month period. We had hoped to hear from Gregory atleast once or twice during her time but there was nothing. I was hoping for maybe a phone call or even in today's day and age a short video of her training or playing or something but there was nothing. I understand people are busy and I did not want to constantly call to check on my dog for worry about bothering or interupting him with dogs or other clients. So we waited in silence.
After a month passed we decided we should contact him and see if she was ready to come home. Gregory had mentioned before we dropped her off that all dogs are different and may take less time or more than the 1 month. We met Gregory at his location and of course our dog was again overly exited to see us. Gregory made the comment that she is getting better but not ready yet and they work to a high standard. This time around she seemed really stressed out and had a sore developing on her hind leg (Im no vet but i can only assume it was from being in a crate most of the time she was there)and a small wound on her head. She was also filthy. I felt bad leaving her but in the best intrest of dog training and my hard earned money I decided to leave her.
After 2 more days went buy and me not sleeping thinking about my pup I contacted Gregory and mentioned that she had already been at his location for a month and if we could discuss a date of her coming home. The next day he contacted me and said she was ready to pick up.
We picked her up and one of the things we noticed right away was she was not biting at our hands when we reached out to touch or pet her. But if I raised my hand in a upward motion she would immediately cower as if I was going to smack her. After about a day she started with the whole mouth mc bitey face thing again but not as bad and she was before.
When we picked her up Gregory scheduled a follow up session with me to learn how to properly train her and the commands they use and provided me with an e collar. So I could continue the training. After 2 lesson I guess he figured I was good and told me to call him if I need anything. Well what I needed was a well trained dog and I guess I have about 1/2 of a well trained dog and will do the rest of the work myslef. To bad I couldn't only pay half price.
I understand it will take continued training but I was hoping a month and $1800 big ones would have provided more consistent results. So now I pad a shit ton of money. A month of missing my pup grow up just to keep doing the same thing I sent her away for, constant consistent correction and my wallet is a little lighter.
Gregory seems like a good guy and he does have experience training dogs and Im sure his idividual training sessions and protection training is excellent. In the end the board and train didn't work out for my situation.
