| - ESPA at Vdara was a big disappointment! I booked 50 mins classic facial, and during the initial consultation with my aesthetician she recommended "to take it a step further" and do the peel. I specifically told her: I DON'T want to be red, because I'm going to my girlfriends birthday party at Marquee at night. The aesthetician assured me that it would not happen. I'm a spa fanatic: I had every possible treatment and had many peels before, the latest one at William Burke spa in San Fran, where my skin was fine afterwards, just minor irritation. Back to my Vegas experience: I agreed to do the peel, because I thought I could trust the aesthetician and she would have my best interest. Well, it turns out her best interest was to upsell more expensive facial. After I walked out from the treatment and looked at myself at the mirror, I wanted to cry... It looked like I had major skin problems on my face: all bright red and patchy. I asked spa attendants to talk to my aesthetician, but she left for lunch. Spa supervisor came in to talk to me, but she was pretty useless. All she said that everyone reacts differently to the peel, and I happened to be more sensitive to it. More sensitive??? Why was I not warned about possible effects when I SPECIFICALLY asked not to make my skin red???? This question no one could answer. At the end this supervisor gave me her card, I think her name is Erin, and she also gave me pathetic 20% discount on my treatment for "the inconvenience". My fiancée who paid for the treatment could care less about that discount. He was pretty upset at them to see me with red face.
Well, I don't wear regular foundation, just tinted moisturizer, but that night I had to apply very generous amount of powder, foundation and other stuff to cover up my redness. Next day my skin still looks red, I hope it gets better by the time I'm back to work in San Fran.
In all honesty, ESPA at Vdara was the worse spa experience in Vegas I've ever had. I come to the city pretty often and I used to live in Vegas, so I've tried almost every spa here. I've never been so disappointed with the service and how my complaint was handled. Plus, amenities at ESPA spa are very modest in comparison to other places.
Spa at Aria next door is much better in terms of service and amenities. But my favorite is and always will be Spa at Mandarin Oriental. It's absolutely luxurious and heavenly starting from attentive spa attendants, mind blowing amenities and five stars treatments. People at Mandarin know how to do their job, and they do it exceptionally well!
