| - T and I were trying to find a great Asian place to try while visiting Pittsburgh and thanks to fellow Yelpers, we landed on Tamari. Our waiter was great and he explained the whole small plates concept for us. To start we had:
-Seared tuna with daikon, masago, ginger and ponzu
-Chipotle tamarind glazed ribs with parsnip puree and sauteed kale
The ribs were much more T's thing but the tuna was more mine. It was fantastic. Really fresh and I loved the ginger and daikon for crunch. So good. Our next course was:
Two teeny skewers of king trumpet mushroom and tenderloin along with bulgogi (served with asian slaw, ginger polenta and pico de gallo) and mushroom salad (king trumpet, beechwood, frisée, sambal vinaigrette and cilantro). The bulgogi was really flavorful and tender. I thought this dish was more successful than the mushroom salad but was still a great choice. The mushrooms were a little chewy and I wasn't a big fan of the vinaigrette.
We also had two sushi rolls, the lobster which was lobster tempura, avocado, cucumber, sriracha aioli, tobiko and served with lobster fritters on top. I don't think I really even need to pause to tell you how amazing this was. And T had the Chifa: shrimp tempura and cucumber, topped with miso torched white tuna and wasabi aioli. Both rolls were very good. Fresh and nicely presented.
We skipped dessert since they were out of churros which was VERY disappointing. I take dessert things personally. But overall, a great meal that we really enjoyed while visiting Pittsburgh. We would definitely return if we were in the area.
