| - I love this place! Unfortunately, I can understand some of the things stated in the bad reviews. But the people that recommend NCC over R2C2 must be nuts. I have been to R2C2 in the summer when the A/C has been out and yea, it didn't smell so good. A/C was fixed quickly though. Over the past couple of years I have seen some employee turnover, and they have had some employees better than others. I have seen the employees with their face buried in their phones. But those ones usually don't last long. For the most part the employees are friendly and helpful.
PROS
Best variety of climbing. Tons of bouldering, 5 auto belays, 6 or 7 top ropes and dozens of sport climbs. Walls with multiple varying degrees of pitch from vertical to overhanging, concave and convex arcs, reverse stair-step, and the only roof / ceiling in town. Upstairs has a 35° and 45° walls for bouldeting.
Each gym in town is unique and has its own vibe. The vibe here is amazing! The class of climbers (regulars) this gym attracts is top notch. From beginners to advanced, pretty much everyone is pleasant, friendly and considerate.
Owners, manager, and majority of staff is friendly and helpful. Yea, a few people have come and gone that maybe were not as friendly or helpful as others, but it is what it is I guess. When it comes to hiring employees, I guess you can't hit a home run every time.
3 floors of climbing and a 4th floor dedicated to work out and yoga.
CONS
Lighting stinks. Not sure there is a fix for that. But it seems the recessed lights are aimed with great care and percession to be directly in your eyes while belaying.
Gym gets crowded on UNLV nights. I'm OK with a full gyms, it's only 2 nights a week when school is in session. But it does mess up the mojo a bit. The students are not as considerate as the regulars.
Overall though, great gym, great place for (supervised) kids / family time, great place to train.
