| - Gotta say, Midwood Smokehouse was pretty tasty--coming from a girl raised on Memphis style BBQ. Everything was delicious. I had the pulled pork plate, an utterly huge portion for a reasonable price (choice of meat, two sides, and hush puppies). The fries were lightly spicy and cut very thin, fried to a perfect crisp. I enjoyed my one hush puppy. It had a slight kick and was nice and crunchy with a rich cornmeal flavor. The best part was definitely the Mac and cheese. The noodles were soft and cooked perfectly and the cheese struck the perfect balance between gooey parts and semi-solid parts. The BBQ itself almost paled in comparison to the sides, but it was quite good with a nice smoky flavor. I will say that I preferred the more southern style sweet sauce than the vinegar based sauce, and I wish the pork had been a little more moist without having to add sauce. The only disappointment at Midwood was the banana pudding, which I felt had too much whipped cream and not enough bananas, vanilla wafers, or, well, pudding.
The decor is super cute--we now sometimes play trivia at home with the name "Praise the Lard"--and the service was good. Midwood is worth a visit for sure!
