| - As a Las Vegas local it'd be silly for me not to take advantage of the plethora of hotel resort and spas located all across the city. Last week I decided to have a staycation, but wanted it to be lowkey and away from the strip. I was so excited when I logged into my groupon account and saw that there was a spa special for a massage and pedicure package at the lake Las Vegas spa for super cheap, and hotel rooms during the week floated at about $110. I purchased the spa package and booked my hotel room for a Monday-Wednesday staycation trip. The spa services and customer service at the spa were amazing. But the spa building itself was just, dirty. They could definitely use a nice steam cleaning of the carpets to start off with.
The hotel experience however was a completely different story. Checking in was a breeze until it was time for me to find the elevator to go to my room. The girl at the front desk said, "sorry I don't have any maps out here, there might be some in the back, but if take 500 turns you'll find the elevators". At that point I asked the lady at the front desk to find the maps. She left and came back a few minutes with a stack of maps and gave me a map. The hike to my room was annoying, but I was excited because I had stayed at this hotel when it was the Ritz Carlton and I remembered the rooms being beautiful. I walked into my hotel room, opened the drapes, was excited about the balcony, turned around and noticed Hugh chunks of missing paint and plaster in the wall.
I called down to the front desk and verbalized my concerns about the room and they immediately apologized and sent the bell man up to help me change rooms. I got into my new room, opened the drapes and noticed that although the room had no chunks of plaster missing, there was no balcony. I called down to the front desk again to explain my concerns and the response I received was less than desirable. "Uh, balconies are not guaranteed and all the rooms in your booking price with balconies are full". I informed the lady that, at that point, her response was irrelevant and the situation needed to be fixed. After a minute or two she upgraded me to a "lake view" and sent the bell man back up to my room with different keys. The bell man literally dropped off the keys without offering to help me with my bags and I was stuck trekking around the hotel to find my room. The third room was nice, no holes and a balcony. I tried ordering room service dessert that night, but they were out of my choice so i decided to go out to the village instead.
Although a lot of the shops are closed down in the village, the ones that are open, are great. The Mexican restaurant is good, the ambiance is beautiful on the patio and the seasons grocery store has everything you might need available for reasonable prices.
You can rent paddle boats, and Sup boards on the lake. And the pool at the Hilton is family friendly and relaxing.
So why the two stars?
-the hotel and spa common areas are just dirty and old, and the carpet could use a nice, deep steam clean.
- the horrible front desk customer service. As someone who has worked in the customer service industry for years I was appalled by this. There is no excuse.
