This is the spot. No doubt. Not even the slightest hesitation. For me, nothing tops a well-executed hotel lobby bar, and this is a perfectly executed hotel lobby bar. (I am still formulating a theory as to why I adore lobby bars, but I do.)
Vesper does everything right. It is open. There are plenty of seats. You can watch a stunning graphic display on the ever-changing columns in the lobby. The cocktail waitresses are adorable and classy. It is sophisticated without being pretentious and manages to feel intimate. Last night I saw Gus Hansen there.
Then, there is the Hot Mule. I have had it repeatedly, and every time I am delighted by how delicious it is. I would put it in a thermos and sip it all day long if it wouldn't get me in trouble.
Hot Mule, will you be my signature drink? If you say yes, I promise to honor, love and nurse you til closing hours do us part.
