| - We had been looking for a place that provides fresh sushi like we had back in our home state, and this place was "close". It is undeniable that New Zealand Cafe is a very busy and popular restaurant. But "busy" is not always a good sign; sometimes it just means there are a lack of other restaurants of high quality. Such is the case with New Zealand Cafe. It is a good restaurant with good food, but it stops there.
The food seemed fresh, but it was not like, "oh my God this is so fresh!" kind of feel. When you taste really fresh food, your taste buds will scream for joy! Again, food was good, but not "OMG I can't wait for another bite!".
I wanted to give this place five stars, but it fell short in a couple of areas: (1) service was fast, but not friendly; (2) if you like fake crab meat in your sushi, this is your place; (3) the soda dispensing machine is right next to the bar and some tables; this is constantly in use, inhibiting your privacy at your table plus the fact that constantly falling ice is noisy. It should be re-located away from the customers' dining experience.
I would not say the restaurant fell flat. Rather, it fell short of what we had hoped and read. If more sushi places were available, I don't think New Zealand Cafe would be as busy as it was, unfortunately.
