| - House Modern is located in the shopping complex next to the AMC theaters, and many, many other restaurants. I'm really surprised on the limited amount of good sushi places, and this place actually surprised me. They are family run and operated, and have some beautiful qualities, and some rough spots.
Decor: House Modern has outdoor and indoor seating with a small indoor seating arrangement. Inside has a bar menu, with some pictured food menus stapled along the wall with pricing. Kinda like a specials menu? But not quite the same. There is NO SUSHI BAR, so please keep this in mind, you won't be able to see how the rolls are being made.
Food: I will state, that I did enjoy the rolls that we ordered. My main draw back is that I usually don't eat at a sushi house unless they have a sit down sushi bar. I like to be able to see the quality of the fish, and if needed, ask for the paperwork to see how the fish comes in. Which by the way, is a legal thing to do. This is why the review isn't as strong, I don't feel 100% comfortable with not being able to see my sushi being made. Then, for dessert, we ordered Mochi. Which cost I believe $4 for 2 pieces, cut in quarters, with a little whipped cream. I found it unfortunate to see this. I could've went to the store and bought a box for $4.
Overall: The service was ok for the most part, and the food was ok. Will I go back? No, I won't. I don't feel that the price we paid for the food was a justified experience. I felt that we were served frozen fish, or pre-made spicy tuna. I will probably stick to my gut as a chef and dine at places that have a sushi bar, and the paperwork readily available.
P.S. Diana H, if you're one of the business owners our partners, it's in poor taste to send me a message calling me ignorant. Not only am I a chef, but I have managed and know food costs vs labor costs and where they should be allocated in pricing. So be careful who you try to bash.
