| - We were there for a quick 3 days for my birthday. I have a goal of staying at least 1 night at every hotel on the Vegas Strip. So Vdara was next on our list to stay at. We rented a car from the airport (as we usually do) and drove to the hotel. Getting to it by car was a little confusing (but then again, that little area with Vdara and Aria is a little confusing in general). We were going around and around looking for self parking for Vdara. After 3 passes around - we decided to just park at The Cosmopolitan. When we checked in, I asked the clerk about the self parking and he said Vdara only has valet parking - no self parking. You could self park at Aria and Bellagio for $10 or at The Cosmopolitan for free. The check in clerk was very blah. No conversation, no descriptions or mention of locations to any amenities of the hotel. He answered my question about self parking, asked for my ID and credit card, and then gave me my room key and said "the elevators are over there" (pointing to the left). That was it.
The Room: We had a Deluxe Lake View Suite on the 46th floor which was the perfect size. It was very clean and modern looking. Amazing view of Vegas (strip and outside of town) from so high up. It was beautiful to see all the snow on the tops of the mountains. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious with a great soaking tub and stall shower. The shower head isn't very flexible so the you cannot aim the water onto your legs - so you find yourself doing a little contortion thing in order to wash your legs. No biggie though. One thing that was disappointing was that there was no coffee maker in the room. You could "rent" one for $20 if you wanted. I would much prefer to have a coffee maker than the iPad next to the bed explaining the amenities of the room/hotel (including the info on how much renting a coffee maker is). The iron leaked like crazy (I use the iron a lot). I saw a housekeeper in the hallway and asked for a new iron, but one never came. We were there only 3 days so I didn't make a big deal of it. Oh and a 1L bottle of Fiji in your room is $18.00!! I know hotel mini-bars are overpriced but that's ridiculous. (You can get a 12pk of 1L Fiji for $23).
The Hotel: The lack of self parking is a big problem (at least for us). Ironically enough, we were there when it was 43 degrees (brrrr) and super windy. So walking outside to The Cosmopolitan, then through their lobby to the garage elevators and then through the garage each time we wanted to go to the car was a royal pain. Granted - we chose to have a car and we chose to self park at The Cosmopolitan instead of paying $13- $18 (+tip) each time at Vdara for valet. I was surprised to see limited places to eat. Vice Versa is the lobby bar with great seating and there is a cafe type place and Starbucks. When compared to other "hotel only" places, Vdara is very nice for a hotel. And that is what they are - no casino, no clubs - a hotel. I guess I never realized how much I like having a casino in the place I am staying at. Even if I'm not gambling - it offers a larger area to at least hang out in.
All in all - I would say Vdara is very clean, modern and comfortable. I highly recommend staying in a Deluxe Lake View Suite on a high floor. Beautiful view! If you are looking for just a place to stay - Vdara will meet your needs nicely. If you are looking for the place you are staying at to add to your Vegas experience (like casino or club), Vdara isn't for you.
