| - You wouldn't expect Sage to be a farm-to-table dining concept, judging by its sleek modern decor and hip ambiance. High-quality and fresh ingredients are used to create unique dishes possessing a complexity of flavors.
Chef McClain's Signature Menu offers a well-rounded sampling of delicacies featured on their regular menu. My friend and I ordered from the same menu and tried each other's orders, because sharing is caring.
Wagyu Beef Tartare: I loved the richness of the beef. It tastes great when spread all over slices of toasted bread. The chocolate shavings were more decorative rather than adding to any of the beef's flavors.
Foie Gras Custard Brûlée: Much more savory than I was expecting, but still good. Figs or another sweet fruit might've been better choices instead of the bitter kumquat.
Grilled Spanish Octopus: A mild and light dish compared to my Maine Day Boat Scallops. The octopus was perfect and tender -- what more could I ask for?
Maine Day Boat Scallops: Everything in my heavy boat of a plate melted in my mouth. The two plump scallops were perfectly cooked, as well as the braised oxtail and mushrooms.
Bacon-Wrapped Iberico Pork Loin: In this case, there's no such thing as too much pork. The braised pork belly was melt-in-your mouth delicious, but it wasn't the star of this dish. There's also sorts of rich flavors and textures in this dish that make it delectable. One thing I wasn't crazy for was poached pear flavored with anise and licorice -- just not a fan of the flavor combination.
Dark Chocolate Panna Cotta: The dessert overall was delicious, but I'll admit that I didn't like the red velvet sponge cake, mainly for its texture - I still devoured every . single . crumb.
Foie Gras Candy Bar: The Foie Gras Candy Bar is what really attracted me to Sage. It's unlike any other dessert and foie gras dish that I've eaten. Essentially, it's like a luxurious Snicker's Bar with bourbon caramel, salt & pepper peanut butter cream, and chocolate crumbles and a dusting of gold...and it's pretty bomb.
Lychee Green Tea: Aromatic and flavorful.
To finally finish off dinner, our server presented us with complementary hot chocolate with rosemary in "shot glasses," which was smooth and delightful.
The service was great. Staff was professional, personable, and attentive.
Conclusion: Dine here if you want to spoil yourself or someone else.
