  • Despite the gaudy "AS SEEN ON FOOD NETWORK" sign, the food lives up to its reputation. After returning from a holiday in Italy, we craved genuine carbonara (which, if you don't know, is not cream based but made with egg and Parmesan). After hunting high and low, and eating countless disappointments, we called Guiseppe's before making the drive to ask how they prepare theirs. When Richard said "of course it has egg" like we were dolts for even asking, we knew we had to go. And sure enough, it's the best we've had since returning to the US. I kid you not, my wife teared up on the first bite out of sheer joy at the authentic taste. Richard is the owner and operator, and like a lot of New Yorkers is friendly once you break the ice. We haven't tried any entrĂ©es other than the carbonara (with homemade pasta), but have been back several times just for it. On one occasion we had a nice mozzarella spinach antipasto. And after hearing another table rave about the tiramisu, we ordered a slice and were elated by it. Suddenly, the woman who contemplated licking the dish clean didn't seem so unreasonable. Why four stars instead of five? Well you can always expect a wait at this 28-seat restaurant, and the service is friendly but distracted.
