  • I've waited two years to try this place, ever since I've heard about the famous "duck in a can" from both Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. We came here during early spring, when the windows were removed, and you can enjoy the wonderful summer breeze while engorging yourself on the most wonderful of meals. Fortunately, I had placed a reservation two weeks in advance, and we were seated almost immediately by the "very" friendly staff. The word "very" is in quotation primarily because the waiter was literally standing within 5cm of our faces, but friendly, maybe it's a Canadian thing. As for our meal, we shared the herring, beef tongue, the pate, the duck in the can, and the beef tartare. The beef tongue was absolutely marvelous, dissolving instantaneously in my tongue, leaving nothing but longing for more bites of that savory goodness. The herring was simple, but elegant, and sweet, not overwhelmed by the fishiness that comes with smaller fish. The layers of potatoes chips was a nice touch, but I thought they were fillet slices, alas. The pate was alright, don't remember much. As for the duck in a can, oh man, I think it was definitely the presentation more than anything else that sold me. The waiter came with a large can, with very amusing illustration of a duck cartoon, and poured the contents directly over a toast and pureed (unknown deliciousness). The duck was cooked with root vegetables and fois gras inside the can, and it was so tender and juicy that I would highly recommend it to everyone. Although, if the duck didn't come from a can, I may not have paid $44 for it. The beef tartare was good, but wasn't mind blowing. I did see other people ordering the pig head (which was HUGE) and the hen for 2, but I'll save that for next time. Also, if you wanted any of the pork dishes or the rib, just know that there was enough meat on that platter to keep Fred Flintstone in a food coma until the year 2000. Overall, I was very pleased with my meal, especially paired with an excellent bottle of wine, and the best company money can never buy. I would definitely recommend coming here if you were to ever visit Montreal, and please reserve early in advance. Food: 5 stars Ambiance 5 stars (we sat across from the brick oven and saw every dish made directly in front of us) Service: 4 stars Price: 4 stars
