  • I am on a roll with writing reviews on CrossFit boxes, and words cannot express my gratitude and love for this box. I initially found CrossFit as a fourth year medical student in Philadelphia, where I dabbled in barbell work and did not take it seriously. I ended up in Cleveland for my residency training, where I did not know anyone at all save one or two friends from previous stages of my life. After moving into my new apartment and before I unpacked anything, I found this gym and headed to the Saturday class. As an introvert, I initially panicked internally when I saw that it was a partner WOD (Workout Of the Day). However, I was immediately put at ease when multiple members introduced themselves to me. In addition, Phil, one of the owners and coaches, came up and introduced himself and showed me around the gym. After the WOD, Phil made it a point to let me know that I should feel free to check out the other boxes in the area before committing; I still remember his saying to me, "I do not want to pressure you at all." I found that quite refreshing and thought it spoke volumes about the business philosophy of this box. Needless to say, I joined on the spot - the coaching and the community from that first visit left a positive impression on me. Now almost three years later, my time in Cleveland is coming to a close. If you are acquainted with anyone medical, you may know that residency training is extremely difficult and rigorous. This box provided me with an outlet for the stress that is inherent in my work and a constant source of encouragement in the midst of the ups and downs during medical training. More importantly, I have become much stronger and am now able to do things I had never been able to do before - handstand push-ups, rope climbs, GHD sit-ups, pistols, ring dips, kipping pull ups, etc. (sense a theme?) Of course, if you are an avid CrossFit athlete, you know that there is always room for improvement, but the mere fact I am able to do them now - I don't know, I am just so amazed that I was able to achieve this despite working 60-90 hours a week with 28-hour continuous shifts depending on the time of month. I really have to credit the coaches for this. That said, it is **not** as if they push you to the point of injury. It is challenging but safe. After all, it is the coaching that we ultimately pay for -- and this box does not disappoint. Finally, the community is amazing. I have been invited to weddings, baptisms, baby showers, birthday celebrations, etc. It does feel like a family in a way. Also, when former members return to Cleveland to visit, we always make it a point to meet up for a meal or drinks. Phil and Josh have truly created a wonderful community here. Although I will miss many things about Cleveland, I am particularly sad to be leaving this box in June. I would highly recommend anyone who is in the Cleveland area to stop by and check this place out!
