| - This hotel feels good. Could be all the angels watching over it.
On the other side (south) of Tropicana, Mandalay is not the best location if you intend to casino hop what I consider the major strip. There is however a train/tram to the Luxor and then on to Excalibur (corner of Tropicana & Las Vegas Blvd) with a pedestrian bridge to the other side. If that's not important or you don't mind walking, Mandalay is terrific!
We arrived early, were coolly received, but had no problem checking-in. Our room was large, clean, beautiful, and I remember thinking it was too bad we would scarcely see it. Two closets!! A "junky" room makes me anxious, so our stay was off to a good start.
The casino floor is spacious without feeling cavernous. Lots of slots and table games, but no automated Roulette (tram to Luxor). There are numerous dining options available suitable for every taste and budget. An atrium area (of sorts) provides live music at night with ample space for dancing - or you can sing along (drink in hand) while sitting at a slot. The floor staff is warm and hospitable, and cocktail service is non-ending until you say otherwise.
There is also a lot of security as one would expect. You will have to show your room card to one of several officers present at the elevator bank and quite a few walk the floors. Imagine how many others remain hidden.
Overall we had a wonderful stay! If I had a gripe it is/was paying for parking. No way around it. Self or valet, you will pay.
One more thing...book through MLife. They promise the lowest room rates which for me was true - and even better they email special offers for low priced and free upgrades.
