  • I cannot gush enough about our theater district here in Cleveland. The love and energy that went into restoring our theaters is most certainly appreciated--and you know this by the million plus people that flock to Playhouse Square each year. The Connor Palace Theater is a bright gem nestled within that group. I love the French Imperial style and the crystal chandeliers. The ornate décor on the walls, marble staircases and lush red patterned carpet add something very special to this beautiful venue. If you look carefully, you will notice that the stage is framed with old piano keys and the innards of ivories passed. I was most recently there to see Into The Woods. I hadn't seen it on stage in over ten years and this troupe certainly didn't disappoint. What a magical, funny, sort of dark story told in front of a really fun songbook. ("Rooting through my rutabagas!") The construction of the stage and spot-on acoustics made it very easy to enjoy the show. We were lucky enough to obtain loge seating, so we were in a very comfy chair in an upper wing. (level 9, I believe). I liked that we had servers...but ours came by as we were sitting down (about 15 minutes prior to the show) and we hadn't looked at the menu yet. She said she'd be right back but never returned and we weren't able to get service! The bathroom lines were very long at intermission and after the show. Not sure if we would have even made it back by intermission. Another restroom would be very helpful. Concession lines were also very long and quite confusing (lines running into eachother, no formation). Some logisticals could be tightened up, but it is overall a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. Redcoats throughout the entire building to guide you in the right direction. Show your support for the arts and visit a theater soon! Make sure you grab dinner or drinks in a nearby hot spot, then enjoy the sparkle of the outdoor chandelier! You won't be disappointed.
