The flying saucer has a great atmosphere. Hard wood, and nice decor render a great pub feel. The flying saucer offers a nice draft selection as well.
However, the wait staff and food is below average. An exception is made for the pretzel, but the cheese served with the pretzel was stale. The saucer pies (12 inch pizza) is among the worst I've had in Charlotte. The sauce had a bitter taste, and the ingredients used didn't taste fresh.
Our service was slow. Definitely could have been an off night for the wait staff. I'm skeptical though. I gave our waitress the benefit of the doubt until I repeatedly spotted her behind the bar chatting with co workers. Meanwhile she neglected refills, messed up food orders, and forgot drink orders.
If you are only interested in grabbing a few beers at a pub, then the flying saucer is the right spot. If you are looking for dinner and drinks, then you're better off spending your money elsewhere.
