  • When I went to school in Madison, the Aveda school was my go-to place for cheap highlights on a student budget. It always ended up being an all day process (they're students, give them a break) but the results usually ended in a happy wallet and head. I currently live in Minneapolis and have never had a bad experience at our Aveda school. Why the sudden change of heart and one star review? First, we arrive on time for our appointments and were asked if we could wait 30 minutes because all of our stylists were "helping out with the tent below." The other two ladies that I had brought with me kindly let the receptionist know that we were on a time constraint because we needed to leave for an out of town wedding at 2 pm. We met our stylists about 5 minutes after our scheduled start time (noon) and were taken to seats on opposite ends of the salon. I sat down for my consultation with my stylist and showed her a picture of my desired blow out style. My hair was quite greasy and not at all style worthy (We had called and specifically asked if a shampoo was included in our style and were were told yes. ) yet the stylist immediately went to the curling iron. I requested a shampoo and the stylist had to go check with her teacher to see if that was okay. (One of my friends said she had to argue with her stylist to even get her to shampoo her hair!) After being shampooed, we returned to her chair where she began to blow dry my hair. 1 1/2 hour later, I am still in her chair with damp hair and tears in my eyes from my hair being YANKED on for over an hour. At this point, we are very much behind schedule and I'm distraught that I could be potentially going to a wedding with damp hair. I quickly asked my stylist to cancel the thermal style and that we needed to leave due to the time constraints that we had described in the beginning of our service. I went to ask the other stylist if she would be able to finish up my friend's blow out within 5 minutes and she asked me to go ask another stylist to assist her. It was a horrible and long experience. As a frequent guest of salon schools, I'm aware of the timing issues and sometimes less than stellar outcomes. But this was one that I will NEVER be repeating. Avoid this school at all costs!!
