This is one of those businesses that I just don't see how it stays open. I got a "buy one, get one free" coupon for their bundtlet cakes so I stopped by a few days ago. I got a red velvet and a chocolate chocolate chip bundtlet and sampled the confetti cake they were featuring.
And they're all OK. The confetti cake is a perfectly acceptable yellow cake with colored sprinkles. The red velvet cake is a perfectly acceptable red velvet cake with a very few chocolate chips in it. The chocolate chocolate chip is a perfectly acceptable chocolate cake with a very few chocolate chips.
But none of them are special. Yes, they were moist, but the flavors are pretty meh. The frosting is fine too but honestly I think it looks so ugly, with these fat white cylinders extending down the sides and a big glob of frosting on top--it looks like a giant white spider with extra legs is just sitting on the cake.
I get that people don't like to bake themselves, but you can make a better cake on your own for so much less money.
And the name of the franchise--Nothing Bundt Cakes?! Really? The cakes are nothing? I get that it's supposed to be a play on "nothing but cakes"--but the store I went to does sell a lot besides cakes. There's a lot of merchandise in the place, and quite a few employees as well. It's surprisingly crowded. So since the "nothing but cakes" meaning of the name doesn't really work, I have to agree that the bundt cakes are nothing special.
You definitely can do worse than buy a cake here--but you can also do better.
