| - I've eaten shave(d) ice many times - including places that serve what they refer to as authentic Hawaiian shave ice. So, after stopping here during a "Food Truck Friday" and reading some of these reviews, my girlfriend and I were a bit confused if maybe we accidentally chose the wrong truck.
I ordered a blue coconut flavored ice with double snowcaps and some vanilla ice cream. She ordered a tiger's blood with a single snowcap, also adding vanilla ice cream as well.
To put it bluntly: I could taste the condensed milk. But the ice flavoring? Forget it! The flavoring was so weak that if it were served to me blindfolded and you asked me what flavoring was used, I would not be able to tell you. And this is not an exaggeration.
I thought that, perhaps it was just a simple botch job, until my girlfriend started voicing similar complaints. I tried hers and discovered that she had the same issue. It was essentially nothing more than eating plain ice that's been sweetened with some condensed milk and a bit of ice cream found at the bottom. I understand that it's supposed to taste natural and not all syrupy and fake, but if you can't even detect the actual flavors that we picked, then I'm not sure what went wrong.
Honestly, I don't know. We recently had Hawaiian shave ice at another location and were blown away with its quality. So, either they do things a little differently here, or it was simply just an off night. Very strange.
Hopefully, your results will be better than ours.
