| - I really enjoyed my stay here during the week of July 4th. I loved this place in its THEHotel incarnation, and it's nice to see that the Delano has freshened the place up and put its own stamp but not lost what made it an appealing option in the first place. It's still a boutique-feeling hotel, albeit one with well over a thousand rooms, and seems a little more personal than the mega-resorts and offers a calming respite from the madness. But when you're ready for the madness, it's just a short walk across the lobby right into the Mandalay Bay casino and all its very fine restaurants. The entry has two giant sections of stone leading you into the lobby, which is done in very neutral colors (everything here is cream, taupe, black and tan) but still feels striking. Check-in was a breeze, and my panorama suite was cleaned and ready to go at 11:30 am (I realize this is subject to circumstance, but it's always nice when you can get in early and it's pretty rare in Vegas).
The hallways have an attractive carpet in an impressionist pattern in blue (the only real color in the place) and washed-out but still effective photos of the surrounding desert. It helps to give the hotel a sense of place without screaming "Vegas!". The rooms are pretty much the same set-up as back in its THEHotel days, with a living area and half-bath, then a bedroom and full, super-nice bath with very deep soaking tub and plenty of counter space. The bed was very comfortable and I like the padded headboard with the gold accents and the smoky reading lamps. There's a nice sofa in the living area with a chaise on one end. My only real quibble with the room would be that it doesn't have automatic drapes. It would be nice to be able to open and close them from the bed, a la Aria and some of the other high-end places. The panorama suites are on the ends of the halls and have views of both the strip and the mountains from the bed.
Housekeeping was excellent--the room was perfectly spotless and all the furniture and linens in good repair. I went down to the pool for a couple of hours each morning, and the room had already been cleaned and refreshed by the time I returned.
The Delano has its own dedicated pool area, which THEHotel never did. But it's just a sectioned-off part of the larger Mandalay Bay pool complex, so it hasn't really added any space to the beach area. It's still always a zoo. (If you want a more serene pool experience at this property, you're gonna have to shell out for the Four Seasons.) And you have to trek all the way across the Mandalay Bay casino in your swimwear to get to it.
The Skyfall lounge and Rivea restaurant on the top floor are good reinventions of the miX space and still offer the best view from a lounge in town.
My only other quibble with the place would be that the website says the Franklin bar in the lobby is open 10am - 2am, but it was closed when I stopped by at 11am to get a snack on the way to the airport, so I didn't get to try it out. Otherwise, the place is in good hands and I'm sure it'll remain a top option for me when I'm in Sin City.
