| - Went for Saturday late lunch. I got a combo platter that included beans, rice, a chicken enchilada, a beef and cheese chile relleno, and a pork tamale. I had a wide range of loves and hates, blacks and whites.
Tamale: very good. chunky bits of meat inside, verde sauce on top. It was spicy with no menu warning, but I like spicy. Very good sauce, big tamale.
Enchilada: very little sauce, filled with shredded chicken. Chicken was kind of chewy. It was well seasoned, but not flavoured. Bland.
Chile Relleno: This was the densest batter I'd ever seen. I'm used to an egg batter on one of these, but this was more like a 50/50 egg batter corn cake mix. It was like eggy corn bread, which sounds like it would be pretty good, but wasn't. Very dense, very bland. I ended up just cutting through the coating to the chile inside, which was well cooked, and the filling was good.
Beans and rice: tasted like they were straight out of a can. not seasoned, not a good texture.
Salsa that came with the chips: canned.
If I had just gotten pork tamales with verde sauce instead of the combo plate, I probably would have given this place a 4.
The place was dirty. Clean tables. Dirty carpet, lots of old food in-between the cracks in the booths. Waiter was filthy, like he'd been helping out in the kitchen and wiping his hands on his pants and apron.
