  • This isn't so much a review for Salon Fontana as it is for Yasuko, one of the hairdressers that works there. (In fact there was once a time when I got a haircut at this place by someone else and Yasuko had to fix it. I'll tell you now, as a person of Asian descent, I've had a horrible time trying to find a good hairdresser out here in Vegas (as can be seen at http://www.yelp.com/biz/kaya-beauty-henderson#hrid:I8GFu-bVVRFKEAlvLwymAg). I'm not sure if it's because my hair is different from caucasian hair or if the way that hair cutting is taught in America is different than in Asia. Regardless, knowing this I always bring tons of pictures (front, side back, styled, unstyled) with me to show hairdressers what I want -- which is hair that is thinned at the bottom with no layers. I'm not sure what it is but no matter how much explaining I do I always end up getting crazy amounts of layers put in my hair. Well, it was something like a dream come true when Yasuko looked at the pictures I showed her and said "Ok, so I'm not going to put any layers in your hair" before I even said anything about layers. Finally! While she couldn't regrow the 5 inches of hair that the butcher cut off last week, somehow she was able to make my hair actually look longer with the way she cut it. She was even able to fix the parts that were shorter on one side than the other and blend the terrible layers that had been put in my hair and make it look like I have no layers. One other thing I really like about Yasuko (and maybe it's a Salon Fontana policy) is that she uses almost no product in my hair. I find that a lot of stylists use product and styling to hide bad haircuts so that I don't realize things that are wrong with my hair until I get home. I really appreciate that a whole lot. (Additionally, no products means shes not shoving the products used at the salon down my throat). And in the end, my awesome new haircut actually cost the exact same amount as the place that ruined my hair! (I'd been holding back going to Salon Fontana because the last time I went there, my haircut cost $80, but this time it was only $45!) I was so happy I gave a $30 tip. If you're Asian and you're in Vegas, you need to go to Yasuko. In these past few years I've been living here she's the only person who I can honestly say has a strong grasp on Asian hair and Asian hairstyles. (Yes, even compared to the people in the Asian salons on Spring Mountain). Hooray for fixed hair.
