| - it seems to me that with the right approach, this place could be really happening, but mostly during the warmer months aka anytime when it is relatively palatable to completely necessary to sit on a patio with drinks. you might imagine, then, that this place has a patio. well you have a great imagination because it is a HUGE patio, the likes of which can compare to stratengers to the southeast and joy bistro the southwest.
without the use of the patio, however, i wouldnt be all that interested in hanging out there for now. its very nicely designed inside with a snazzy hot red glare, a nice long bar and a few seats. their specialty is martinis, and i imagine for a martini lover that would be one draw.
one drawback, of a few, is the location. it sits on the corner of dundas and carlaw which is in the centre of an industrial area that doesnt have much happening around it. yet if its reputation was strong there would be enough folks that could come there after work, or from a short walk from their condos or lofts nearby. Plus there is neighbourhood houses around as well. so the drawback is that its not on a subway line and doesnt have the popularity to make anyone go out of their way.
now why is that? well, there is nothing special about the music that plays there, or the food. Perhaps a few special items on the menu might attract more people and especially in the warmer months, have a band play outside, maybe. I dont know if there are any bylaws against that.
Anyhow, the owners name is Leo and he is a welcoming and warm guy (the place is named after his daughter) and maybe he's just sussing it out. But if you are in the area, check it out for the patio and for the martinis.
