So with the continuation of my food journeys in Pittsburgh, I found myself searching for a quick bite on a rainy night and found myself wandering over to Sonoma Grille. I saw some solid reviews and wanted to give this place a shot. The joint itself is on the bigger side with a large bar as well as a large dining area. There are drawings on the wall near the bar with of course tv's set up for people to watch various games. I'll be honest and say that each time I have walked in, I haven't seen a hostess standing at the podium but perhaps coincidence and really didn't matter to me since I just made my way over to the bar.
The bartenders have been friendly enough when engaged but will say they seem busy (which I appreciate) but in turn not always the most attentive. Perhaps they should consider hiring more people since the bartenders did seem genuinely busy but I digress. They have a decent liquor selection and I found myself of course perusing the various drinks and settled with Balvenie as my choice both times I was here. Within my two visits I have ordered the pork chops and the steak since on both occasions the Indonesian glazed duck was not available. I would say both of the dishes were OK for me. They were good but not sure if either were memorable for me to warrant a o.m.g. moment where I felt someone should make their way over to this joint. They cooked both dishes well but there was just that certain something that was missing to make it special.
All in all, a decent spot to hit up but I think there are a few other joints that would be at the top of my list instead.
